Governance and connectivity risks complicate cloud adoption
Wickbold sought the clear advantages of cloud adoption: scalable resources to support demand spikes, reduced operational costs and faster execution of strategic initiatives. Yet a full migration introduced significant risks.
The company needed to ensure direct governance of its Oracle® database, an essential requirement for audits, availability and data integrity. Wickbold also had to ensure compatibility and performance between its SAP applications and cloud-based architecture.
In addition, because physical distance between applications and the on-premises database could hinder user experience and slow mission-critical processes, it required low latency. For Wickbold, maintaining custody of key data assets while enabling fast, flexible innovation was critical, but it was a delicate balance.
Going all-in on hybrid cloud
To resolve the tension between the need for control and modernization, Wickbold implemented a hybrid digital architecture hosted in an Equinix data center.
The company retained physical custody of its critical Oracle databases through colocation with Equinix, ensuring security, stability and direct oversight of the hardware layer. Wickbold also migrated analytics and planning workloads to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), enabling it to leverage cloud elasticity for analytics, planning tools and future digital projects. Equinix Fabric® made this strategy possible by establishing a dedicated, private, low-latency link between Wickbold’s physical infrastructure at SP3 and OCI via OCI FastConnect. This eliminated the latency challenges of a traditional cloud model and enabled the entire system to operate with the stability of a local network.

Today, Wickbold’s resilient hybrid environment combines uncompromised governance with the agility to scale and innovate.
The company benefits from latency equivalent to on-premises environments gained with dedicated connectivity via Equinix Fabric and OCI FastConnect. It also leverages faster, more stable performance for order-capture and other critical applications. Governance remains fully under its control because it maintains full physical custody of the Oracle database at the Equinix data center—which lets it run analytics and modern applications in OCI while keeping the core secure.
