public cloud on-rampsWebSpace unlocks 5x faster cloud connectivity for business growth
As part of an effort to expand its payment processing solutions to wholesale retailers, WebSpace needed high-performing network connections to public clouds. Its physical hardware routers weren’t up to the task, but by switching to Equinix Fabric® Cloud Router, the company established cloud on-ramps that provided a five-fold speed boost while also dramatically reducing latency and deployment complexity.
Equinix provided the best proposal to meet our requirements. They also offered a dedicated team to support the implementation, allowing us to build our multicloud environment with confidence.

Hampered by the network
WebSpace, an established provider of in-store payment processing solutions, needed to expand to serve its wholesaler clientele. Doing so required switching from an on-premises database to one hosted on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). The company also hosted workloads on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Under this multicloud architecture, the network became the weakest link. WebSpace relied on legacy on-premises routers to move traffic between its environments, and they simply weren’t capable of delivering the low-latency, high-bandwidth connections that the business needed to keep scaling.
Faster, simpler cloud connectivity
WebSpace found a solution in Equinix Fabric Cloud Router (FCR), which it now uses to connect to its cloud providers and modernize its network. The solution replaced legacy physical routers with a virtual, distributed solution.
FCR is a software-based service that enables users to connect quickly to multiple clouds over direct links that bypass the internet. The connections can be managed using familiar automation tools such as Terraform and Pulumi, and the service is billed under a pay-as-you-go model.
As a result, the WebSpace team can use FCR to provision and manage all its cloud connectivity from a single control point (via a console and an API) and adjust configurations in real time. It also avoids paying for network capacity it doesn’t need.
Open for ongoing business growth
With FCR in place, WebSpace’s multicloud environment provides a modern infrastructure foundation to support strategic expansion. Not only does this solution deliver speeds of up to 1 Gbps—five times faster than the 200 Mbps supported by the legacy routers—but it is also substantially more agile, simpler and less costly to manage.
These advantages mean that WebSpace can continue its growth into the wholesale payments processing market. Network connectivity is no longer a barrier to expansion or delivering excellent customer experiences.
Benefits
Faster cloud connectivity
Low-latency 1 Gbps connections replace 200 Mbps connections on the legacy network.
Increased network agility
Virtual routing enables network agility, automation and centralized management with developer-friendly tools.
Cost-effective networking
FCR connections are billed monthly based on the bandwidth and number of connections provisioned, so WebSpace doesn’t pay for underutilized resources.
Market expansion
Cloud on-ramps powered by high-performing virtual network connections play a key role in helping WebSpace reach new customers.
