Green Awards, Recognition, and Advocacy
At Equinix, being “green” is part of being operationally lean but also doing the right thing. We’re always looking for new ways to reduce energy and water use in our data centers. We also seek to play an active role in the “greening” of our business and be a leader in evaluating and deploying innovative solutions. The following lists some of our engagements and some of the awards we received as a result of our efforts:

U.S. EPA Green Power Leadership Award for Excellence in Green Power Use
On October 23, 2017, Equinix was selected for recognition in the Excellence in Green Power category of the 2017 Green Power Leadership Awards. The annual awards recognize America's leading green power users for their commitment and contribution to helping advance the development of the nation's voluntary green power market.

NAREIT 2016 Leader in the Light Award
On November 16, 2016 the National Associate of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT) honored Equinix as one of nine winners of the 2016 Leader in the Light Award. Equinix won the data centers category of the award for demonstrating superior sustainability practices across all sustainability criteria including ESG (environment, social, and governance) practices.

Corporate Renewable Energy Buyers’ Principles Signatory
Joint initiative with the World Wildlife Fund and the World Resources Institute (WWF/WRI) to help the private sector more effectively seek renewable from traditional utility partners and developers

Business Renewables Center (BRC) Member
Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) initiative to build a collaborative platform aimed at accelerating corporate renewable energy procurement

MSCI Global Sustainability Indexes
As of June 1, 2015 Equinix is a constituent of this environmental, social, and governance (ESG) index

U.S. EPA Green Power Partnership
In 2015, Equinix debuted at a rank of 18th in the Top 100 of renewable energy users in the nation (United States only) and 6th in Technology & Telecom group. As of July 23, 2018, Equinix moved up to 6th in the Top 100 of U.S. renewable energy users – reporting a U.S. total of 1,475 GWh of renewable energy used in 2017 and representing 76% of our U.S. load including Verizon. Equinix came 5th in the Technology & Telecom group. In addition, we were recognized for our Long Term Green Power Contracts; having executed the nation’s 4th and 6th largest renewable energy contracts out of a list of 312 projects.

American Business Act on Climate Pledge signatory
Equinix was one of 154 companies that signed a pledge to demonstrate their support for action on climate change and to demonstrate their ongoing commitments to climate action

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Award
Recognized for leading the industry by building and maintaining state-of-the-art green data centers across the Asia-Pacific region.
Awarded for 2015 & 2014

2014 International Datacentre and Cloud Award for Environmental Sustainability
Equinix received this award recognizing AM3 for its innovative cooling and energy sharing design, resulting in optimized power usage effectiveness (PUE) and significantly reduced CO2 emissions.

2013 EU Code of Conduct Energy Efficiency Award
Awarded to our AM3 IBX for adopting innovative technologies to improve data center energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption

2012 DataCenterDynamics Award: Green Data Center
Awarded for innovative cooling design in our AM3 International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center in Amsterdam
