COLOCATION SERVICES: IBX / Cooling

Equinix IBX infrastructure is the industry standard for premium colocation facilities. Customers are guaranteed superior environmental benefits at every Equinix IBX center.

Cooling

As demand for power and cooling continues to increase, Equinix’s robust Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning (HVAC) system is a key differentiating feature of the premium infrastructure at its IBX centers.

Redundant HVAC

Each IBX center is completely fitted for precision HVAC systems to provide optimum conditions for equipment operation and to minimize downtime due to equipment failure. The HVAC system provides appropriate airflow, temperature and humidity. An N+2 redundancy design provides additional protection for customer operations. Air-cooled package chillers are arranged in N+2 redundancy configuration and backed up by generator supply to provide round-the-clock chilled water supply to the precision air conditioner units throughout the IBX center.

The cooling systems at Equinix’s new IBX centers in Chicago and New York provide the following:

  • 13, 652 BTUH per cabinet
  • Eight (8) 750-ton centrifugal chillers
  • Six (6) variable primary chilled water pumps (N+2)
  • Eight (8) condenser water pumps (N+2)
  • Eight (8) cooling towers
  • 40 air handling units in the colocation area
